What's On - Follow The Phoenix Singers

Baroque Splendour

Saturday 2nd March 2019 ~ St John's Church, Staplegrove, Taunton at 7.30 pm

In the ringing acoustic and beautiful surroundings of St John the Evangelist Church, The Phoenix Singers present 'Baroque Splendour', a concert of Choral and organ music, accompanied by a chamber orchestra.

The music will include G.F. Handel's rousing coronation anthem 'Zadok the Priest', conposed for the coronation of King George II in 1727, and the delightful interplay of the complex and joyful motet 'Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden' (Praise the Lord all ye nations) by J.S. Bach.  The choir will also be performing Vivaldi's Magnificat and Gloria in their entirety, all complemented throughout by organ music from the period.

This is the first performance by The Phoenix Singers under our new Director of Music, Martin Schellenberg.  We look forward to welcoming Martin by performing this wonderful music, for both a new audience and our loyal regulars.
