What's On - Follow The Phoenix Singers

Choral Evensong at Sherborne Abbey

Saturday 28th September at 5.30 pm

The Phoenix Singers have been invited to sing in the fan vaulted glory of Sherborne Abbey.

For the service of Evensong to celebrate the Feast of St Michael and All Angels, the choir will sing ‘Holy is the true light’ by Sir William Harris as an introit. This will be followed by the responses written for Magdalen College, Oxford by Bernard Rose. The Psalm will be sung to chants by Atkins, Turle and Day and the Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis will be sung to the glorious setting by Herbert Howells for Gloucester Cathedral. As the anthem, the exquisitely beautiful unaccompanied eight part anthem ‘Faire is the Heaven’ by Sir William Harris will be performed.

The organ will be played by the Abbey’s Honorary Assistant Organist, Harold Jackson, and the Singers will be conducted by Martin Schellenberg.

Do come and support the choir in the ‘Cathedral of Dorset’ and one of the most beautiful of England’s parish churches on Saturday 28th September at 5:30pm.

Admission is free!

We look forward to seeing you!
